In my quest for an inexpensive, USA made storage, work surface solution that wouldn't give me a headache, I found itso, available at Target.
Set up was very fast with the hardest part being the removal of the over glued labels. These cubes are large, sturdy and stack up to three high, they can be locked together with snapping posts, from the top and sides, making as big a unit as you need, quite solid despite being plastic. These cubes hold ALOT, overall dimensions are 14.75 x 14.75 x 14.75. Four cubes, stacked in two high sections, make two very solid bases for a desk top to stretch over (I used three bases here as lots of storage was needed).
The components are the best part- They have snap on dry erase board doors, assorted trays, storage bins and can have up to three shelves installed. There is also a two drawer cube (a little pricey @ $26) which operates better than most of the plastic storage drawers out there. All the plastic components are made in the USA except for the snap on casters and legs. This elaborate set up, pictured here, rings in at $150. Too much you say? Well, you haven't priced desks lately then. If and when a real desk ever gets purchased (such as the one here), I can move these into to a closet or something. I used a narrow sliding closet door for the top (look familiar Jake?). My needs are far less than the spoiled one who gets this, maybe Santa will bring me 6 cubes I can configure into a craft center.
One caveat: they are potential dog hair magnets. Trying out wiping them down with dryer sheets. That aside, I'm finding it very difficult to not buy out the five Targets in a 10 mile radius.
